Montessori Day Public Schools Chartered - Tempe Reviews

My child has been at this school since early 2006 and is probably the smartest 4 year old on the block. Fully reads and writes, does her plus-es and minus-es and knows all the states and continents. Furthermore, she is so knowledgable about other countries, and animal, and plant life that she continually outwits her parents. The school went through some restructuring before the 2007-2008 schoolyear and the new administration and new teachers are all wonderful additions to the school and all prior kinks have been worked out and it now runs like a well oiled machine. They are also so good about teaching the kids independence, great values and social protocol. I feel I am definately getting my money's worth and my child loves going to school and we plan to keep her there through 5th grade.

I found great improvement in my Daughter's progress. She had learnt a lot and impressive development in a year.

I am a Montessori mom. When we moved here from out of state, my son knew no other type of educational setting. This school fell incredibly far short of my expectations Understaffed, poorly run. Parents try to make up for the lack of support from the administration, but can only do so much. There is no PTO, and the idea of one was not favorably received.

There have been major challenges to the toddler program in the past month. As a parent I expect honest two-way communication about my child's care. In theory this could be an excellent program, but has continued to fall short of my expectations due to high turnover and staff who demonstrate burn out. I think the quality of education varies from class to class.

Try as they might, the staff cannot make up for the lack of support they receive from the owner. Many parents try to participate, but the administration is so under-staffed that school needs are not presented in a timely manner. In sending my children to this school, I feel as though I have hindered their education. Also the teacher turn-over rate in tremendously high.

Individually, the classrooms provide a wonderful learning environment for the children. The teachers are encouraging to the children and parents in supporting the Montessori theories. I feel confident that my child is becoming her own person and learning from the materials. She has become independent in her thinking and the good choices that she makes. Above all, she loves going to school each day.

My child is in the toddler class, and has made tremendous strides in her vocabulary. The staff is wonderful, and stays consistent with my at home values. They make it very easy to contribute as a parent with many different activities. The teachers and aides are all wonderful to talk to and deal with on a daily basis.

The availability of arts and music seems to waiver with the high-turn over staff. Many of the teachers are great people with low administrative support, not so much from thier campus administrators, but from the owners. There seem to be black holes in the areas of funding for different campuses. That said, the students are generally safe, eager to return and excited about the Montessori pedagogy.

The campus is beautiful, but it feels abandoned and unsafe. This school is one of the more expensive montessori schools in the area. The Director is wonderful.

This school is gravely understaffed. The board members operating this charter do not openly and honestly acknowledge the school's problems when they are addressed by parents, and do not encourage parental input or involvement beyond the level of donations or classroom volunteering. The school has one outstanding, veteran, overworked Junior Elementary teacher, and an outstanding P.E. teacher. There is no P.T.O.

This school has been great in the past, but this year (05) is suffering staffing problems.

My 3 children all love going to school here. I am amazed at how much they are learning, how safe and loved they feel at school and by the quality of the teachers. I am also pleased by how welcome parents are. I can visit at any time and I frequently can volunteer in the classes.
