Mission Montessori Academy Reviews

The best charter school in Scottsdale. Their quality of education is the standard that every school should strive for. The middle school field trip to Padagonia was an educational bonanza. Thank you staff for your dedication.

This school continues to amaze me with its quality programs. Recently the upper elementary students and middle school students had the unique opportunity to participate in a two day poetry workshop with renowned poet, John Fox. The students absolutely loved the experience and are eagerly writing thoughtful and meaningful poetry. This is just one of the many reasons that we are thrilled to have our children at this school.

I just got back from the Launch Day at MMD for a year long study of Going Green. Evidently the school has been selected by the USGreenschools Foundation to pilot a program for 1-7th grade students based on the EPA year long calendar of topics. September is Global Warming and October will be a study of Hydrogen fuel. My family cannot be happier about the school, its curriculum which is always enhanced by hands-on and authentic study. Pass the word. This is an excellent school.

We love this school for so many reasons, but mainly for the committment of everyone involed with this excelling school. The bar is always being raised and our children have benefited tremendously at every level. The 1st through 3rd grade level was wonderful and the 4th through 6th grade suceeded our expectations. We are so grateful for the opportunity of attending middle school with another outstanding teacher. Thanks team for a great year!!

Love the school for it's primary and lower elementary program. Mission needs help with the upper elementary program and teachers. Once your child reaches upper elementary the curriculum is no longer montessori. Classrooms are too small for growing upper elementary children and children are expected to sit in one place without talking to others. Not a Montessori method. Not a true whole child environment. Cannot understand the school growing to a middle school when they have not yet mastered the upper elementary curriculum. I say keep the school small and concentrate on what was started and not move forward to something the school is not ready for.

The Maricopa Home and Garden Tour that Mission Montessori was chosen to be in was a wonderful event for the community and the students of the school. There were over 1000 people who attened the event and who enjoyed the beautiful gardens in which the students were tour guides. They spoke on subjects of wild life habitats, gardens, compost and animal care. My child loves Mission Montessori and is looking forward to a gardening class this summer with their Master Gardener.

Mission Montessori Academy is a wonderful environment for students and families who are interested in developing children who are peaceful global citizens. The Montessori curriculum is holistic, self-sustaining and promotes peace through their gardens, animal husbandry, and character education programs, which enhances their academics. My son and daughter have benefited greatly from this excelling school.

Two more awards bestowed on Mission Montessori. First an Art Grant from the AZ Comission of the Arts. This year Mission is doing an indepth study of the Native Americans, which they are sharing with other schools. Second award is from the Phoenix Home and Garden. They have been selected to participate in the Garden Tour because of their committment to creating and keeping the schools environment indigenous to the area. The gardens are spectacular and I am glad my children get to learn in such a beautiful environment.

Excelling school in many areas not just academics. My son and daughter are very excited about a program that is being offered that encourages critical thinking, Children's Technology Workshop. They are learning the newest technologies, strategies and skill acquisitions for crtical thinking, problem solving and decision making. Combined with their character ed, gardening and academics it is a very powerful curriculum.

This school offers many advantages that you loose in a large school. Because it is small it is more of a family atmosphere We were new last year and from out of state, however the children were made to feel right at home from the beginning and accepted as part of the community. The parents are a wonderful group and have activities for new families such as Saturday date night. Last year we got together for dinner, Kareoke and dancing. This year they are starting off with an ice cream social for new families and old. Great staff. kids and parents in a beautiful setting.

Great school with excellent academic program and family like feeling. It is like having your kid in a homeschooling environment without the burthen and the disadvantages. Each child feels unique.

Great outdoor environment. New students can have a difficult time trying to feel genuinely welcomed, if your child has not attended since preschool. Very established close knit parent involvement.

It was another great year. We are very grateful that our children are not on the waiting list and will have a place in this amazing school. Our daughter enjoyed being a part of the Art Project, the time line of life, and our son loved the science lab. And as always a wonderful end of the year program. Thank you teachers, administration and staff.

I am one of five lead elementary teachers at Mission Montessori and I have been with this school for six years. The teacher qualifications at Mission are extremly high for an elementary school. Four of the five teachers have Masters Degrees and their Montessori Certification . The fifth teacher has a B.A. with Montessori Certification. The extracurricular teachers such as the Sign Language, Spanish, Gardening, Music are degreed teachers. Also there is not an extra fee for these wonderful classes. The activity fee pays for these outstanding classess as well as field trips and extra assistants for each classroom and the Character Education curriculum. We are authentic Montessori teachers and most of the students have been in Montessori since they were two and three years old. This is an authentic Montessori School.

Two years ago my family and I were asked to transfer to Scottsdale from the East coast. Our children attended one of the first and best Montessori programs in the country. We searched the internet for Montessori programs in Scottsdale and the surrounding communities and we were taken back by what Mission Montessori Academy had to offer. It has been the perfect place for my two children, and we have high expectations for Montessori programs. I am amazed that this program has been able to provide the enrichments- master gardening, hands on science- sign language, Latin, music, art, and exellent Physical Ed programs I remember when Montessori programs, before charter schools, had to charge very high tuition in order to be successful. It is also very rare to see a staff of such highly credentialed and passionate teachers teaching at the elementary level.

This school has a great outdoor garden environment and gardening program that is utilized well. Extracurricular activities are available but at an additional cost even though a $500 fee is paid yearly by each student for additional activities. Teacher qualifications are getting better but not what I expect for a Montessori program. My daughters classroom is not the best Montessori classroom I've ever seen either. I am hopeful that the homework she had last year will be reduced or better yet none at all since the Montessori curriculum is not to include paper homework. Too much paper learning in Math too. Awesome science work hands on as well as art. Reading is greatly encouraged and my daughter had a good year overall. Some discipline problems with other students but they were addressed appropriately. I'll give them one more year to become a more authentic Montessori school.

Great administrators, great teachers and a great school. It starts at the top. The administrators at Mission Montessori are passionate about quality education and that inspires the teachers and the teachers inspire the students. Everyone feels supported. I am a parent of a student at Mission Montessori and I am so impressed with the openness of the administrations door. They listen to the parents and understand it is the community of parents, teachers and administrators that support the students. Together decisions are made in the best interest of the students. We are new to the area and Mission has far succeeded our expectations.

Lessons come alive in school mural. I am so excited that my daughter was able to participate in a project that depicted the beginning of time through present day, a 65ft long Mural of the Eons. This is a school where meaningful experiences are connected to one's daily life. Learning is clearly enhanced when it is connected to something meaningful to assist learners. All subjects were covered in this project - History, Biology, Social Study, Math and Art. This project was funded by a grant from the Az. Commission of the Arts. It is the 2nd year that Mission Montessori Academy has received this prestigious award. This is a school where hands-on materials give clarity and meaning to learning.

I am very impressed that this school has a monthly parent education night . I am a new parent to Montessori and the educational nights has help me to understand the methodology and philosophy. It is easy to see why Montessori children never loose the love of learning. It is an exciting environment where the student is totally engaged in the learning process. This is a must see for anyone who is interested in quality education. Judy

This is truly a wonderful school. I have been home schooling our children for the last two years. I was concerned that their social skills were delayed and they needed more interaction with children their age. I interviewed several schools with my children. Our interview at Mission went very well in fact so well our children did not want to leave. They fell in love with the campus especially the animals and gardens. The students made our children feel very welcome. Both our children wanted to start that day. As a teacher I especially like the core curriculum and it is an added bonus to have the master garden program, Latin, Spanish, Sign Language and a wonderful character ed program.

Mission Montessori must be the best school in the valley. We just transferred from a public school in Scottsdale and on our first day we had the opportunity to participate in an International Peace Day Ceremony. The students dedicated a peace pole with the words 'May Peace Prevail on Earth' in eight languages. They read poems, sang songs, related what peace meant to them and had a Native American Smudging ceremony around the pole. Mission is an ethnically diverse school and included in the program were children from eight ethnic backgrounds reading 'May Peace Prevail On Earth' in eight different languages. We felt very welcome our first day and very proud to be part of this amazing community

A picture is worth a thousand words. Mission Montessori's web site shows the quality of their educational program. You can easily see their staff is committed to excellence and that the children are experiencing a love for learning. In the five years our children have attended Mission, we have been inspired by their total dedication of the teachers, parents and administration of preparing an environment where the children are thriving. We are grateful to be a part of this evolving community.

My husband and I have 2 boys at Mission. One is in the elementary program and the other has just entered the primary program. BOTH love going to school each day and love everything about it. My We have been with the school for 6 years and we are so happy. We are also hoping for the school to go to 6th grade as we are not interested in putting our boys in a public school. This school is wonderful!

I love this school.. I am a parent of a child who attends Mission Montessori and a teacher in another school district. I wish the school that I work in would implement many of the innovative ideas that this school provides for their students. What a joy to see the children engaged in their work and really enjoying and interacting with the beautiful montessori materials. I have learned many wonderful things that I am sharing with my class. From gardening to the character education and virtue program and even how the time line of life is presented. It is all very exciting.

My one 'complaint' would be the school doesn't serve milk with their hot lunch program. If that's the worst thing to happen, I guess I'm having a good day! My son is in 4th grade there, and has been with them for 5 years now... we are crossing out fingers they open a 6th grade class.

My husband and I love this school. And our daughter can not wait untill August 21st for the first day of school to begin. We particularly like the Character Ed. Program in which they incoporate virtues, peaceful conflict resolution and the Ambassador of Light program. The Ambassadors of Light were wonderful role models for the lower elementary students. Our daughter will be in the 5th grade this year and she has made it a goal to become an Ambassador of Light. The academic program is excellent, also. The Arizona Department of Education has labeled Mission an Excelling school. We look forward to another great year and hope they add a 6th grade class.

We are parents of child who attends the elementary campus. Our child is going to need extra help over the summer. MIssion provides opportunities for students who need a little extra help over the summer. The school has put in a top knotch math curriculm and reading curriculum for the summer. As working parents we did not have to do any research for quality tutoring it was already provided by the school. It is their ongoing commitment to the children that continually impresses us. Everything they do is handle like true professionals. You would expect this from a large school. I don't know how a little school competes. The admin and teachers all have a very high standard that they will not compromise. We look forward to next year.

We had a wonderful year at Mission Montessori Academy. Solar cooking, ecology curriculum, science experiments, and most of all an outstanding nurturing environment based on strong peace curricuclum for my children. Mission is the perfect school.

Our daughter just graduated from the Kindergarten program at Mission Montessiori Academy. The program prepared her well for elementary school. The school assesses at the beginning of the year during the year and at the end of the year so we knew how she was doing at all times. Through parent conferences and evaluations we had a clear pictures of her progress. It helped us as parents where we needed to be supportive in her education. We are excited about moving to the elementary campus.

My grandchildren attend Mission Montessori Academy and I am so impressed with the amazing amount of writing that the students are doing. I understand that they just published a 200 page anthology of writings from the first graders to the fifth graders. I think that those students are very lucky to have such wonderful teachers and such an enriched curriculum.

My child will be graduating from Mission Montessori June 1st. It has been an incredible journey for our child and our family. We started 6 years ago. The same time the school was awarded their Charter. Each year the school continues to grow and add to their outstanding curriculum and staff. The culmination this year was a weekend retreat to Arcosanti designed by Paulo Soleri. We wish Mission continued success and the fulfillment of their vision to expand through 6th grade.

this is a great school and a lot of extracurricular activities for children.their academic program is excellent.

I have to admit that the parent involvment is phenomenal! The school allows for a lot of parent interaction and volunteer possibilities as well. There is 'opportunity' for extracurricular at an additional fee. On the down side which is a problem for me as a parent is that there appears to be more children than the teachers can handle and a lot of the one on one teacher interaction I had hoped for is virtually gone. The kids are taught to be independent and self reliant which is a Montessori enviroment although I don't feel that the amount of supervision is sufficient for this enviroment. My child constantly complains about the noise level and distraction of the classroom. Unfortunately, this also leads to problems with children getting along and respecting each other and in a small school enviroment this should be more easily addressed and handled but it is not.

We are parents of a special needs student. Our daughter is accepted and is thriving at Mission Montessori. We feel so blessed to live in this community and have the opportunity to attend this amazing charter montessori school. The teachers and especially the principal ebrace all children. They celebrate their differances.

A school that represents all ethic groups. Very diversified. The International Peace Day Program was exceptional. Would like to see more schools embrace all communities like mission montessori does.

Principle and teachers do not try to understand kids. They only want to teach a perfect kids and not the ones that are needed to be helped.

A little disappointing. Coming from a private montessori school (AMS) background, we realize the montessori philosophy is on allowing the individual child to excel at his or her own pace. However, the classrooms here are very chaotic and disruptive to the point of my child not wanting to go to school. The teachers seem very frustrated as well. The gardening/outdoor curriculum is very nice. The director is also very nice and approachable. A little disappointed in Spanish only being offered every other week. We have decided that the charter school system is not a match for the educational environment that we are searching for.

I am thrilled with this school. My son thrives in first grade, learning much more than he would in a regular public school, but under no academic pressure. He reads beyond his years, knows facts about geography, science and history that usually isn't introduced until much later, and is being introduced to multiplication, division, fractions and ratios. Most importantly, he's having fun doing it. At Mission Montessori, they let a child work to his/her potential, but still let him/her be a kid. The school is more interested in kids being good people rather than just good students.

Highly recommended. Very individualized curriculum. The teachers are excellent!

I wasn't looking for a Montessori school for my kids. I was looking for a small school with low student/teacher ratios, individualized education, a dedicated staff that truly cares, a program that nurtures the whole child, and a consistent discipline plan. I found all that and more at this school. The fact that it is Montessori meant nothing to me at the time, but has turned out to be the icing on the cake. This is a wonderful school full of people who are truly devoted to their mission. My children are learning here, more then they ever did in public school, and their test scores are great. But more importantly they have grown into confident and happy citizens who love school.

This school provides a wonderful montessori education that allows your child to be an individual and not just a number. They provide many activities that allow the whole family to participate including hikes and extracurricular activities such as gymnastics, dance and shadow sports. With the addition of a second campus for elementary, and hopes to expand in the future, we look forward to our son's experience in the years to come.
