Ahwatukee Foothills Prep Reviews

This school is great! If you are looking for a school that will hold your child accountable for everything from homework, in-class assignments and behavior, this is the place. My son was totally overlooked, bored and always in trouble in a public school, now he comes home telling me all about everything. He loves school and has learned me this year than any other year. Another awesome perk is that they have busses. We live almost 20 miles away in a town that does not offer a quality education. We are so happy that we did not have to move somewhere else in order to get a quality education for our son.

In the local public school in the area that our children attended before, their time was wasted. At Ahwatukee they are taught to think, and how to learn, not just rote learning. There might be gaps compared to regular public schiools because they are taught content areas on a different schedule than the regular public schools. How many regular public school 1st graders can tell you about the Phoenicians? Core subjects I find to be very advanced. My kids had to work to catch up, esp. in Math.

I chose this school over the Kyrene schools because of the uniforms. My older daughter went to a school with uniforms in another area, and we just found it to produce a FAR better results when compared to schools without uniforms. There is less social strata, less competition for monetary things like clothes, jewelry, and shoes, etc. That frees the kids up to focus on their education, and they learn to accept everyone as an equal peer. We also found there to be less bullying, less talking down to/making fun of other students, and more of a spirit of cooperation than you would find in a non-uniform public school. ** It's also cheaper! My kids don't feel pressured to dress a certain way, and that means a lot less stress for me, both in the mornings and at the mall. Why the public schools don't use uniforms, I will never know!

I had both of my kids at AFP although they really teach the childern about respect and how to treat each other. They lacked in teaching them real school. My kids are in a public school and have huge gaps in their learning. I also found that certain people in the school don't do thier jobs in a timely manner. And as a parent you teach by example, they expected so much from the parents but I didn't feel eveyone on staff was working up to their own expectations. The teachers my kids had were amazing and treated them and taught them very well. I just think the Curriculum isn't teacking the kids what they NEED to know to be up to par with other kids in public schools.

My children attended AFP last year and had a stressful year due to a lack of appropriate teaching methods. As a result they are behind in the public school they are now in and need tutoring to catch them up.

My children have attended AFP for 1 year and I am very pleased with what my children have learned. They previously attended a private school and it seems as if they learned more at AFP in 1 year than they did in 3 at a private school. There were a few bumps in the road this year but I am sure that every school experiences those occasional bumps. I am very pleased with the curriculm and have recommended the school to friends and family.

My son has attended AFP since kindergarten and he is now in 2nd grade. We absolutely love his teacher and the curriculm as well. Although there have been some bumpy times, any issue I've had was resolved in an acceptable manner. I like the feeling of the small school environment as well. Your child isn't just lost in the crowd and the teachers/administrators know who you are. I would definitely recommend this school to parents that are looking for a school with a great curriculm that allows students to think outside of the box and learn about many concepts/subjects that are not explored very much in a traditional public school! Great job AF Prep!!

March 06, 2008 I would like to commend Ms. Debra Sidman for her excellence in educating young children at Ahwatukee Foothills Prep. Our family has personally benefited from her established principles and values concerning the way students should be treated and the way goals are pursued in education. When you enter Ms. Sidman s classroom, you pause to look around, filling your sight with the posters, books and children s work displayed throughout the classroom. The room is a buzz of energy and students. The room is a creation of Ms. Sidman s vision. Ms. Sidman is the heart of the classroom demonstrating love, caring and respect. I witnessed the compassion Ms. Sidman embodies more than once.

I love this school! There is such a close knit feel to it, and everyone is so involved. I am so thankful to have found it. Thanks AFP!!! :)

I am very pleased with the school and the programs offered by the school. I really like the way the teachers communicate the both the students and the parents. I feel this is the best possible educational opportunity my children could ever get at this point in their development .

I am very pleased with the school's teachers, programs, and services. The education that the students receive is outstanding!

We love this school. My children have been there for 3 1/2 years. The staff is professional, nurturing, friendly, and responsible. They really care about the students' academic development. I take my kid's education very seriously. From the very first day they exceeded my expectations. I have recommended this school to many of my neighbors.

When my son started kindergarten here, I thought it would forever be a disaster. However, they rectified the situation well and he is now in an excellent class. He is learning so much more than the average kindergartner. As well, he is learning to make 'good choices' and 'bad choices'. They have great opportunity for parents although may don't take advantage; but, I would suggest this school to all wanting a quality education and teachers that care.

Awesome school. I enrolled one of my kids in Kindergarden when we relocated to AZ & now have 2 attending. We were so excited to have a school that offered an all day tuition free kindergarden curriculum. I love how they welcome parental involvement . The uniforms makes life so much easier & my kids love the activies they have to bring our family into their world @ school. I would recommend this school to parents that come from out of state & parents seeking a better alternative to traditional public schools. Oh did I mention they have a before and after school program to make todays busy life a litte easier.

After working here and seeing the ins and outs of this place....I would NEVER enroll my child or refer this place.

My chilren have attended for the past 2 years. This is a school for you if you would like to be part of your child's education. The staff is responsive to your concerns and your child as an important individual. The new administration has provided an atmosphere for real learning to occur with discipline.

I used to be a teacher at AFP. I think the curriculum is terrific, but it is difficult for one teacher to implement all the disciplines sucessfully.

Excellent curriculum. Fantastic teachers. Need more attention to discipline and daily safety and happiness of the student body.

My child adores her teacher is really looking forward to another year at AFP. I appreciate the non-traditional curriculum that encourages learning through hands-on activities, art, and the study of other cultures even at the youngest grades. The emphasis on phonics is great also. School uniforms make my mornings less stressful too. AFP is a great alternative to the public school system. The only negative is that as with most charter schools there is nothing available for sports or extracurricular clubs.

Great school! Principal and Teachers care about the kids and thier success. Would recommend AFP to anybody! My child loves iot! He is very excited to go to school everyday! The staff is professional, courteous and wanting to educate thier children! Parental Involvement is great! We don't mind helping when asked! This school 'rocks' for the kids!

AFP is a great school for any child to attend. The classes are a lot smaller, which means one on one with each indiviual student. The quality of the academic programs is wonderful. With the smaller clasrooms the students academic scores are higher. Students get to explore in music and art, as far as sports my son would love to play baseball but nto enough information is given on the sports and other activities. I beleive parents should get invovled with the student more often that helps with thier learning process. AFP is the best school my son has attended since he started school. I love it!
